We are delighted to present the Anita Gyawali-Ganesh Gyawali Health Research Award to Dr. Nitesh Kumar Karna. Dr. Nitesh Kumar Karna is a 3rd-year medical student from BPKIHS, whose research has been accepted as an oral abstract presentation at the prestigious European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress 2025 in Berlin, Germany.

The award was presented by Anita Gyawali-Ganesh Gyawali on Sep 2, 2025 during a ceremony at Blood and Multispecialty Hospital, Kathmandu. This award comes with a certificate and a cash prize of Fifty Thousand Nepali Rupees.

Reflecting on the award, Dr. Nitesh Kumar Karna shared, “my heartfelt gratitude goes to Dr. Bishal Gyawali sir, Ganesh Gyawali sir, and Anita Gyawali ma’am. I am deeply humbled and beyond grateful for your recognition and support. With this award, I carry not just an honor, but a responsibility to give my best in all that I can and create an impact that truly justifies the faith you’ve placed in me.”

Dr. Bishal Gyawali, who established this award in 2023 in honor of his parents, expressed his happiness in knowing that a medical student from Nepal would receive an oral presentation at the ESMO meeting, and hoped that receiving the award would encourage the student to do more meaningful cancer research in Nepal.

Congratulations to Dr. Nitesh Kumar Karna and thank you to all who applied this year. We are delighted to partake in encouraging the young generation to pursue meaningful health research in Nepal!
