
On December 4, 2025, Queen’s SCRI hosted a ceremony to celebrate Dr. Gyawali’s receipt of the 2024 Canadian Cancer Society Award for Excellence in Cancer Research. Dr. Gyawali received the William E. Rawls Prize as an early-career researcher for his significant and important advancements in cancer control research, which we discussed in a previous news post.
Dr. Gyawali delivered a talk at the ceremony, From Kathmandu to Kingston: My Journey of Cancer Policy Research, where he shared his journey from beginning medical school in Nepal, to teaching and working as an oncologist at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He talked about his passion and motivation to pursue cancer policy and global oncology research, and the main focuses and milestones of his research career thus far.
Dr. Gyawali was able to celebrate this award with his colleagues, Queen’s SCRI and CCS representatives, trainees, and most importantly, his family.
